Figurerise Labo Asuka Shikinami Langley

It’s been quite some time since I was so hyped to build a kit that I pretty much finished it straight after I received it. I finally managed to find the Asuka Labo at a decent price long after its first release and I managed to prep and paint everything within a week. Anyway, build no. 11 in the bag, I will take more photos later but for now back to the grind!

This kit has some pretty bad mould lines going through all of the arms and legs. On the thighs they run down the front while on the calves the go down the sides. They are somwehat less noticeable on the arms due to the curvature on the part.

There are quite a lot of small parts which are at risk of going into the void, being the little green buttons on her hair buns(?) and the six little antennae thing that plug into the wrists. The rest of the little green screws that go into various part of the suit are also pretty small, but I ended up using effect gem stickers for those instead.

Painting

All parts painted with white primer as a base. I left the gloss orange parts as is since they look pretty good as they are, being the main gimmick of this kit. I used the included stickers to mask the yellow pinstripes on the straps, though there are some parts which don’t have them included. I used 1mm tape for these which ended up fitting perfectly.

I didn’t fully repaint her face since the eyebrows/eyelashes are moulded in. I masked these off with masking fluid and used the clear paint method to shade the face which is much less risky than a full prime.

Red – Hull red preshade on edges, followed by starter yellow technique (basically yellow in various places for a highlight), followed by a coat of Harmann Red + Shine Red + bit of Propeller Color. I then went over with Mr Color GX Clear Rouge, and then Mr Color Deep Clear Red on the shadowy areas.

Yellow – Mr Color Orange Yellow + some Orange.

Hair – Orange + Orange Yellow + bit of Propeller Color. Basically a browny orange. I painted the edges and shadowy areas to max opacity, and then did lighter coats for the shading effect.

Face – I masked off the eyes / eyebrows etc with Mr Masking Sol NEO first. Then I shaded the cheeks, under the chin, under the nose, mouth and eye socket areas with some Mr Color Lascivus Clear Red. Then I did some light coats of Mr Color Lasvicus Clear Red + Clear Orange.

Green – SMS Super Silver base coat, followed by Mr Color GX Clear Green

Hair clips – Mr Color GX Ueno Black gloss base coat, followed by SMS Stainless Steel.

Shoes grey – Mr Color Gundam Color Phantom Grey
